Who Can Become a Volunteer?

CNS Home Health & Hospice volunteers come from a variety of backgrounds. Our volunteers range from college students to retirees and are committed, caring individuals who have found tremendous fulfillment by working in one of our support service areas.

Why Volunteer at CNS?

CNS Home Health & Hospice provides comprehensive training programs for volunteers in all service areas. Not only will the skills you receive in training be applicable to your volunteer service, but also to your everyday life. More importantly, you will make an enormous impact in the lives of those you touch. CNS Home Health & Hospice offers volunteers:

Flexibility– Volunteer opportunities are available in the morning, afternoon and evenings. Weekend opportunities are also available.

Specialized Training – Volunteers receive an in-depth training to prepare them to work with individuals who are in need of assistance, compassion and care at the end of their lives. On-going training opportunities are also provided.

Team Support – Volunteers play an important role in the hospice team and are supported by a caring group.

What Types of Volunteer Service Opportunities are Offered?

Hospice Companions

As a trained Hospice Companion, you’ll provide much needed companionship and practical support to patients and their families facing end of life issues. Whether it’s running errands, or sitting quietly with the patient to provide a break to the family, hospice companions are an invaluable member of the team.

Bereavement Volunteers

Bereavement volunteers support surviving family members and friends after a loved one’s passing. Volunteers provide telephone support and a listening ear for those who are making the journey through the grieving process. Volunteer opportunities with pre-bereavement services or one of our support groups are also available.

Geriatric Assistance

Our Geriatric Assistance Program (GAP) volunteers are trained as visiting companions to make home visits to chronically ill, low-income or socially isolated elderly. These visits offer an opportunity for socialization, companionship and advocacy.

“Paws With A Purpose”

Paws with a Purpose is an exciting program developed to provide pet companionship visits to our patients. This program works with dogs that are trained and insured through national certifying organizations.

Additional volunteer opportunities include:
  • Office support
  • Fundraising/annual events
  • Arts/crafts
  • Musical therapy
  • Community awareness
  • Special projects (flu clinics, birthday bags)
