Volunteer Opportunities

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with us.  Volunteers play an extremely important role with us.  Without volunteers, we would not be able to offer all of the services that we do.

We need committed, compassionate and caring individuals of all ages and skill levels to join our special team of volunteers.  Please see the list below for examples of volunteering activities.  New opportunities may be added at any time.

For Individual Volunteers

Visiting Companions (GAP)
Our Geriatric Assistance Program (GAP) volunteers are trained as Visiting Companions to make home visits to chronically ill, low income, socially isolated elderly.  These visits offer an opportunity for socialization, companionship and other needed services.

Hospice Companions
As a trained Hospice Companion, you'll take time to provide much needed companionship and support to patients and their families facing end of life issues.  Hospice volunteers are highly valued team members who are thoroughly trained and supported by the hospice team.

Bereavement volunteers
Bereavement volunteers support surviving family members and friend's after a loved one's passing.  Volunteer opportunities with pre-bereavement services or facilitation at one of our numerous support groups for grief after loss are also available.

Office Support
If you like office work, you will enjoy helping out as a clerical volunteer assisting with copying, filing and other office duties or special projects.

"Paws With A Purpose"
"Paws with a Purpose" is an exciting program developed to provide pet companionship visits to our Hospice patients.  This program works with dogs who are trained and insured through Therapy Dogs, Inc.  All dogs and (humans) are welcome to inquire about this program.

Flu Clinics
During October, November and December, our nurses provide flu shots throughout the community.  This volunteer opportunity gets you into the community where your skills will be used in the registration process and as an information associate at various local flu clinics.

Glen Ellyn/Wheaton Auxiliary
The auxiliary has been an integral part of CNS Home Health & Hospice for more than 46 years.  This group of committed and dedicated women hold three events throughout the year and raise more than $36,000 each year to support our programs.

Fundraising Friends
In addition to the auxiliary events, grant writing, direct mail and other projects, CNS Home Health & Hospice also holds two major events each year: Tree of Lights and The Sharing Table.  If you like planning events and having fun this may be the opportunity for you.  We have several committees that need dedicated members.

For Groups

Groups include schools, scout troops, key clubs, corporate service groups, college students, etc.

Many times throughout the year, groups participate in projects to brighten the lives of our patients in Hospice, GAP, or other patients in need.  From decorating mini-pumpkins in the Fall, to making Valentine’s Day and other holiday cards, to doing yard clean-up.  Please call with your project idea(s) or we can assign a needed project to your group.
